Tai Chi Chuan translates into Grand Ultimate Fist, originally a martial art, but today it is practiced primarily for good health. Tai Chi has been thought of as Moving Meditation. The benefits of Tai Chi practice are numerous. It improves balance, flexibility, concentration, organization and the feeling of general well being. The movements are slow, smooth and precise with minimal impact on the body. For many practitioners there is a social aspect of belonging to a group of like-minded individuals. The Silver Spring Martial Arts Association offers the Yang style of Tai Chi. We can accommodate beginners as well as experienced students.
Classes on Mondays and Thursdays, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the William Tyler Page Elementary School gymnasium. Membership is $275 a year.
